DREAMZzz is a new theme from LEGO® with a TV series built around it, like Ninjago. DREAMZzz the series can be streamed on YouTube here: LEGO DREAMZzz. As this theme isn’t an existing property, the prices can sometimes be less than a Star Wars set, where licensing fees must be paid.

Price

The best price we found when purchasing was Kmart [AUD59.00, PPP: AUD0.135], saving $13 [20% off RRP]. Of Course, check the best price, as Big W and Target often have toy sales, including LEGO. There are 11 sets in the theme ranging from AUD35 to AUD240 [RRP].

The Set: Mrs. Castillo’s Turtle Van 71456

This set features two heroes, Mateo and Zoey, plus Mrs. Castillo. It also has two new two mini-creatures, Z-Blob and Grimspawn. These mini-creations are new to LEGO and this theme. Like the minifigures, their parts are interchangeable. In fact, a standard minifigure head will fit on these mini-creations and visa-versa. It’s also possible for the mini-creations to hold an element under their arm.

Most of the sets from this theme have two variations to be built. There is the base version you create, and it has two ways to finish it off. So, in this set [71456], we have a base van that can be converted into a flying turtle or a submarine. The LEGO instructions offer two variants of the finishing construction. In many ways, these sets are a 3 in 1 set. There is the base van [both TJ and I like this base model and think it would look good in any LEGO City], there is the Flying Turtle and then the Submarine Turtle.

Is it a good value as a Present Idea? That is for you to decide and may depend on what price you find it for. We love the crazy ideas in the DREAMZzz theme and how the LEGO® set has multiple versions. Of Course, like all LEGO®, it can then be rebuilt, modified, or part of something bigger.
